ACCA is Association of Chartered Certified Accountants is an institute having its headquarters in London, United Kingdom. The presence of ACCA dates back to 1904 making it one of the oldest accounting bodies in the world. The members of ACCA can call themselves Chartered Certified Accountants (‘CCA’). ACCA provides various certification courses apart from its flagship CCA accreditation. CCA course’s primary specialization is in Accounting. It is a globally recognized accounting profession. While the ACCA boasts about opportunities in Strategy, Financial Management etc., the primary opportunities for CCAs are in Accounting and Accounting Consultancy areas.

The process of ACCA, like all the other major professional courses, consists of three levels being
- Foundation Level
- Fundamentals Level
- Professional Level
Apart from these levels, a candidate needs to complete at least three years of practical experience to obtain the membership of ACCA. The pass rate of the CCA course is around 50% which is quite high compared to CA-India or US – CPA.
Entering ACCA Course
A student can enter any of these levels directly based on his pre-qualification. To elaborate, a student with requisite qualifications can directly enter the professional level. The prerequisites for each level shall be explained in the following posts.
ACCA has provided exemptions for students who have other qualifications such as CA, US CPA etc.
The number of exams required for ACCA eligibility
- Students who have completed 12th from Commerce stream (pass in 5 subjects including English and Mathematics / Accounts, mark of 65% in at least 2 subjects and over 50% in the others)
- Students pursuing Graduation in Commerce (BCom, BBA, BMS, etc.) or
- B.A/B.Sc. graduates from a recognized university (No marks restrictions), through Foundation in Accountancy.
The number of exams to be cleared vis-à-vis qualification of the candidate are as under:

Apart from the coaching fee, the charges to be paid to ACCA are a minimum of INR 1.50 Lakhs. The fees for the various levels also depend on the timing of payment i.e. early registration for exams allows you to pay lower per subject and as the registration is delayed, the fee climbs up.

The Exams of CCA course are held four times in a year in March, June, September & December. Some papers (F1-F4) for the foundation course can be taken online throughout the year at ACCA Accredited centers only.
